Many technology consumers do not realize that before that computer or piece of technology is used by companies and businesses, it has been around for a number of years. Technology just does not pop up overnight. In fact, a piece of technology such as a computer program or computer hardware could spend anywhere from five to 10 years in the research and development stage.

Technology research and development is the phrase that is used for the process of inventing, producing, testing and improving all the new pieces of technological equipment. Over the past few years, it has come to pass that software which can independently observe (and record) the nature of scientific phenomenon has been created and used to a small extent. While it is still in its infancy, the notion that human scientists may one day have to surrender to computerized brains which are superior to their own may move outside of the realm of science fiction (where it has stayed thus far), and into the realm of being the new normal. Already, these software-based observers are being tested with the laws of motion, by observing a computerized model of a pendulum in motion and recording all of the relevant physical laws which they can deduce through this observation. Soon enough, they may move on to finding things which we have not yet observed.

There does exist a danger with regard to allowing computers to observe in this manner. What if, after some amount of time has passed and they have observed enough things, they decide that they are superior to us, and that we represent enough of a threat that we should be eliminated, in the form which was dramatized in the Terminator series of films? In a scenario such as that, we might all be in trouble, especially if such an observant piece of software was given any access to anything which could potentially cause us harm (such as cars, military hardware, and airplanes).

However, the notion that a computer could observe something (such as the interactions between sperm and egg cells) and deduce things which our scientists have never been able to come up with is a very exciting one indeed. With this kind of mind on our side, our ability to advance our technological level is incredible to say the least. Who knows what the human mind may yet accomplish when we divorce ourselves from the limiting factor of using only our own minds? Computers may be far more effective.
